On checking through the old archives and chatting to people, the following brief segments have been written to let current ConFesters know more about the early days.
ConFest Early Days 01
ConFest emerged in 1976 from shared passion among many people about global futures. By the time of the first ConFest, passion for social change had been growing for more than sixteen years. Paddington in Sydney had become a focal point for social action. Jim Cairns, Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister was very interested in evolving a major event that would be part conference, part festival and part celebration. As recorded in Mangold’s history of Paddington Market, Jim Cairns, with Junie Morrosi his personal assistant and David Ditchburn chose to hold their first ConFest planning meetings in the church hall behind where the Paddington Market is held.
