WHAT'S
IT ALL ABOUT?
*
Sydney ConFesters festivals are about experiencing community in an environmentally
sustainable way.
* Participants help and share in activities including setting up, creating
facilities, communal cooking spaces, running and attending workshops and
packing up.
* It's open to everyone including families with children -- no specific
skills or requirements are needed.
CREATING
COMMUNITY
* There are
always lots of newcomers and we aim to make everyone welcome -- if you
are a newcomer, go and say hello to someone and ask for an orientation.
If you've been before -- share the joy. Hugs are the order of the day
-- but please remember to ask first!
* Getting to know each other (with lots of chai) happens while the facilities
are being erected as a group activity. When completed, workshops, activities
and hangout days can begin, with even more getting to know each other.
* We are all pat of a team so offer your assistance regularly. If you
see something that needs doing, please do it or ask how to get it done.
See the Tasks Board for tasks to be done.
* Our combined efforts create this community We ask you, as part of your
entry fee, to contribute at least 2 hours of your time -- and you get
to choose the type of contribution that suits you: site set-up, front
gate duty, daily community functions and activities (e.g. gathering firewood
etc), cleaning, ongoing site maintenance of all kinds and site pack-up.
* To encourage the best festival experience for everyone we remind attendees
to act respectfully with and around each other and communicate honestly,
keeping in mind that everyone has different personal boundaries. Please
remember that your neighbours may be sleeping before commencing your activities.
WHAT
HAPPENS AT SYDNEY CONFESTERS?
* Set up commences
around 9am on the first day (usually Thursday). Everyone helps to erect
the chai tent and chai kitchen, kids’ and workshop spaces, other
communal spaces, hot tub and steam room, basic outdoor showers and toilets
etc.
* Small Welcome Circles are usually held each day.
* There is often an informal concert either on Friday or Saturday evening.
Please bring ideas, musical instruments, jokes, costumes, etc. that you
may like to use as part of your performance. Get together with some new
friends and be creative.
* The Notice Board is the place for any general or specific notices you
wish to convey to others.
* The last day
of the festival is pack up day where we play together, then remove our
presence from the site and finish with a beautiful Closing Ceremony.
WORKSHOPS
* Anyone can run
a workshop and anyone can attend a workshop (check the Workshop Noticeboard).
* All workshops
are free.
* Workshop spaces
will be set up as part of the communal group activity.
* Please bring
all equipment and items necessary to run your workshop. No power is available
on site.
* Workshop spaces
are booked by entering details on the Workshop blackboard.
* Workshop attendees
need to be aware that Sydney ConFesters does not oversee workshops and
you attend at your own risk.
